It took one day to bust my writing regime

There were grand plans: this week, I was going to nail everything. I was going to wake up early to write, I was going to hit all my deadlines, I was going to make time for people. It was going to be great. Well, it’s only Tuesday and I’ve already smashed the hammer well off target.

It started off well enough. Despite a trip to the pub to quickly share a drink with some most wonderful people on Sunday night, I managed to get out of bed at six and get started on my new early-bird-gets-the-writing-done routine on Monday. I then spent the day in a minor daze but survived work and was congratulating myself over some rather tasty fajitas when I got a text that put a stop to my self-praise.

Somehow I’d managed to forget that my writer’s group had been moved to Monday. And why had it been rescheduled? Because the one of the guys is moving away and the other is about to set out travelling. So not only did I miss group – I missed the last bloody one! Totally gutted.

I was tempted to write the week off immediately to be honest, but I got up early again today and opened my curtains so the room could lighten around me as I tapped away and it felt pretty good regardless.

Also, luckily for me, the guys in my group aren’t mad at me and hopefully we’ll be able to continue helping each other out by email for the next while, but I’m freaked out by the thought the group -at least in this shape and form – might be coming to an end. I guess I’m gonna have to try and find some other folks who are interested in workshopping, I’m just not sure where to start. Does anyone have any excellent suggestions?

In the meantime, I’m gonna keep chugging the coffee and see how many words I can fit in before work for the next couple of weeks at least. Pity the folks that have to put up with me please!

  1. Oh those poor folks that has to work with you! No- I’m just kidding, I believe you’ll be in an excellent mood after you get some writing done with the first lights of the day 😉
That’s too bad about your writing group but I’m sure you’ll find another group you can benefit from. I remember when I parted ways with my workshop group after two years and for a month I kept rushing my stories to finish them for the ‘big Thursday nights’ 🙂

    • Aw, the idea of you rushing to get your pieces finished for your no-longer existent group is really sweet! It’s a wrench though isn’t it? I’ve been workshopping with one of these guys for over three years now and the other for about two. Crazy.

And, you’re right – I’m sure that getting good writing done in the morning is really a most excellent pick me up. Thanks for the encouragement! 🙂

  2. Oh, Lynsey, what a shame! I’m sorry your little writing family went separate ways. After such a long time you three must’ve had a total understanding of one another’s work in a truly valuable way.

Still, help and criticism is easy to come by – though useful stuff may not. You could talk to Mr. D about the writing group he started (doubt it’s still going in any capacity) for a few pointers. There ARE Edinburgh writing groups but I have the impression some may be a tad snobby and I think that this is the reason D started his own.

Perhaps you just need to advertise on GumTree precisely what you’re after and see what that turns up – or simply turn to the net for what you’re after. At least your pals will still be contactable, though I’m not sure the travelling one will have the time or resources to really take part until he’s done 🙂

Good luck – and I’m glad this morning still went well for you, even in spite of that hiccup last night.

    • I will miss them, even their occiaional mean, boy comments!

yah, I’ve tried prodding D to see if I can instigate a new group, no luck so far but I shall persevere.

I’m scared of horrible things coming of a post on Gumtree, but hey, you never know.

      Thanks for the lucks 🙂

      • I think with Gummy you will get a good response, but it may take a bit of weeding to find people who actually suit you. I guess you can only just go to the meetings and see what’s what, really!
